Kumar’s lawyers went to court on Tuesday to ask for the bail provided in the lawsuit, but were denied because of the seriousness of the allegations.
Dhankad, the son of a Delhi policeman, died of his injuries the day after the fight. Another fighter is in treatment and has identified the alleged attackers, police said.
A few weeks after the start of the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian Wrestling Federation said the popularity of the sport has tarnished the cases.
“I have to say that this has hurt the image of the Indian struggle a lot,” WFI Secretary Vinod Tomar told reporters.
Tomar said the fight was fighting to improve the image of the fight, to fight “fighters … known only as a bunch of thugs.”
This is the second scandal that has hit the Indian war in months.
