Nick Kyrgios has returned comments about the Australian Open wanting to exclude vaccine-free players

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has changed his attitude towards the unvaccinated players who will take part in the January Australian Open. He says it would be “morally correct” to stop playing the tournament after stating otherwise.

He added that he believed that forcing the athlete to be vaccinated against COVID-19 was “morally wrong”. On top of him Instagram story, Kyrgios explained that comments on his podcast “No Boundaries” since Monday were “out of context” about not allowing vaccinated players to participate in the Aussie Open.

Through Kyrgios ’Instagram story, which was posted just hours after his last podcast episode:

“To say I want to cancel the Australian Open, I think that was a phrase that went out of context. Even more so for the people of Melbourne who have gone through hell and back. I think … it’s been a blockade for almost 300 days. And they’ve taken away your freedom, you know. I don’t think it’s morally right to accept foreign players who haven’t been vaccinated in our country. “

He added about his story, “but for vaccinated players, I think it’s a great opportunity to reunite the city of Melbourne and the people of Australia for such a wonderful sporting event.”

This is quite a change from the comments Kyrgios made hours earlier. Earlier on Monday he had said he wanted to cancel the Australian Open for the safety of all and to prevent an explosion in Melbourne.

“I don’t think the Aus Open needs to move forward, just for the people of Melbourne; you need to send a message. How long did it take. [Melbourne] do the lock? Two hundred and seventy-five days or something? “

The 26-year-old also said on the podcast that it would not be “morally correct” to allow unvaccinated players to take part in the grand slam tournament, but has since clarified what he meant.

Kyrgios has expressed his support for athletes who choose not to receive the vaccine, and he did so again by clarifying his comments after the release of the podcast section.
