Argentina’s economy minister is discussing a plan to renegotiate the largest loan in the history of the IMF.

As we begin a new year, the United Nations predicts lower economic growth in the world.

For Argentina, this will be an even bigger challenge. The South American nation is weeks away from the deadline to restructure its debt with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The debt dates back to 2018, when President Mauricio Macri signed a $ 57 billion loan. His successor, President Alberto Fernandez, rejected the terms of the agreement and sent his Minister of Economy to renegotiate it.

Will he succeed? And will the country ever solve the year-long financial crisis? Argentine Economy Minister Martin Guzman has spoken to Al Jazeera.
