In its latest threat assessment, the Taiwanese Defense Ministry says China will find it difficult to achieve a full-scale invasion of the island due to problems with landing and supplying troops.

In a report to lawmakers, the Taiwanese Defense Ministry said that China’s transportation capacity is currently limited and that it will not be able to land all its forces at once. China would have to use roll-on, roll-off vessels to transport aircraft that would need port facilities and airports.
“However, the national military is firmly in favor of ports and airports, and it will not be easy to occupy them in a short time. Landing operations will pose a very high risk, “the ministry said in a report, a copy of which was reviewed by Reuters.
China’s logistics also face challenges, as the landing force, which separates the two, would have to be supplied with weapons, food and medicine in the Taiwan Strait, he added.
“The national army has the advantage of being a natural abyss in the Taiwan Strait and can use interceptive operations, cutting off the supply of communist military, severely reducing the effectiveness and resilience of landing forces.”
China should also save some of its forces to help a foreign force in Taiwan and pay close attention to other fragile areas of China’s border, such as India and the South China Sea, the ministry said.
“The US and Japanese military bases are close to Taiwan, and any forced communist attacks in China should be controlled, and it should reserve its forces to prevent foreign military intervention,” he added.
“It’s hard to concentrate all your efforts on fighting Taiwan.”
Experts say, however, that China has other resources at its disposal to bring it to its knees before the full invasion of Taiwan, including blockade or missile attacks.
Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen is overseeing a military modernization program to make it harder to attack the island, making the army more mobile and using specific weapons such as longer-range missiles to extract offensive force.
The government plans to spend an additional $ 240 billion ($ 8.6 billion) over the next five years to target missiles and warships.
