David Benavidez has a fight against Canelo Alvarez against Caleb Plant, hoping to take the winner

If Saturday’s middleweight tournament match is an unquestionable match if the audience is interested above all else Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant in Las Vegas, is the man who hopes to get the call to face the winner.

Former WBC middleweight champion David Benavidez (24-0, 21 KOs) could be seen in this weekend’s Showtime PPV (9pm ET) in the skin of two fighters if they didn’t remove his belt twice. in the last three years – once for testing positive for cocaine and losing his weight for the second time last August against Alexis Angulo Roamer before defending the title.

Benavidez will return to the ring on November 13 at Showtime against his replacement Kyrone Davis, who replaces former champion Jose Uzcategui after failing in his drug test. And one thing Benavidez hopes is that if the very favored Alvarez raises his hand, he will avoid returning to 175 pounds before he thinks of fighting Benavidez.

“I feel like a lot of people are fighting for that fight,” Benavidez told CBS Sports on Tuesday. “I feel, in addition to Canelo, I’m the best at 168 pounds. That’s why a lot of people don’t want to fight me right now because there’s a little reward with a lot of risk. A lot of people are avoiding me, especially Canelo.

“Obviously, I’m not going to say that Canelo scares me right now because there aren’t too many rewards. I feel like people will eventually want to see that fight. I’m the only fighter at 168. Canelo can give it to him for his money, and I think I can win. 168 I’ve been with him for a long time and I deserve to fight him. ”

He would be just as happy as Benavidez to face Plant, if he were victorious against Alvarez, to shoot for four 168-pound caps. Both Benavidez and his older brother Jose have been recorded several times in a dispute with Plant in public places after the two sides exchanged words.

At a Sept. 22 press conference announcing the clash this weekend, Benavidez was watching from home as he entered Plant Alvarez’s face and was in a brief head-to-head. Alvarez pushed Plant and sidelined his attempt to respond with a slap before throwing a couple of punches at Planti.

“I actually see the weak movement of the Caleb Plant,” Benavidez said. “It simply came to our notice then [Alvarez’s] head, but I feel like Canelo won that fight. I feel like Caleb Plant, in his head, already mentally exhausted. Caleb pushed, but I think he looked like a fool. I don’t know if he connected on the slap, but Canelo came back with two shots to grow his eye. He cut his other eye open with his palm open.

“I’m still excited about this fight. I feel like there’s a lot for both men in the game and I feel like the best of both men will come out, it’s going to be a great fight. If Caleb Plant loses. whether it’s there or not. It’s an interesting fight that’s still on the table and what we need to do in the future. ”

As far as who wins the fight, Benavidez believes that Plant will have to achieve something influential in order to gain Alvarez’s respect.

“He has to be on his own and be very strict. He has to throw his combinations and get away,” Benavidez said. “[But] I feel like Caleb Plant needs to do his part. The only thing that casts doubt on Caleb Plant is that his power is not enough. I don’t know if he has enough to leave Canelo with him. But of course, in terms of talent, he’s a champion for a reason.

“It will be a good fight, but once the fight starts, there will be no race. [It’s up to] if [Plant] he can bear that and can return to give his shots. I feel like the only people who stay with Canelo are the ones who can really hurt me. You saw that [Gennadiy Golovkin] when he stood up and exchanged with him and I think the last fight is hard [Alvarez] has had. Other fighters like Callum Smith or Billy Joe Saunders tried to run around the ring. You just have to be more discriminating with the help you render toward other people.
