The 14th edition of the ICC U-19 World Cup will begin on Friday with 16 teams competing for silver in the Caribbean Islands.
India, the four-time champion of the tournament, will start the Group B campaign on Saturday, along with South Africa, Ireland and Uganda.
The Under-19 World Cup, in its long history since 1988, has created a number of superstars who have become national leaders. The biennial event has gifted a number of star performers from India, from Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh to the powerful Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Ahead of the 2022 edition, here’s a look at young Indians who can light up the tournament with their early skills.

Rajvardhan Hangargekar
One year after making his debut for Maharashtra, 19-year-old Rajvardhan Hangar will be one of the leaders in the West Indies attack. The right-arm pace enjoyed his debut on the list in early 2021 with figures of 4/42 against Himachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he finished with five wickets in five games, including two 4-fer.
In addition to the sharp bowls in the front, Hangargekar doubles as a strong striker who is prone to big sixes. Hangar’s skill set earned him 216 runs out of eight entries in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy with 16 records six and two fifty records. He finished second on the wicket-takers ’list with an average of 19 scalps under 12. Hangargekar also collected eight of the five wickets in December in the winning Asian Cup campaign in India.
Harnoor Singh
Eighteen-year-old Harnoor Singh is moving to the main event in the West Indies, behind a rich line of form that has lasted four months. Jalandhar-born southerners who practiced their skills in Chandigarh sparked the 19 U-19 Challenger Trophy with 418 runs in four entries over three centuries. Harnoor continued with another hundred in the U-19 Triangular Series in early December, with 251 races in the U-19 Asian Cup in the Basque Country in five matches, against 120 hosts.
Harnoor’s purple patch has certainly hit the Caribbean’s edge as he warmed up with an undefeated 100 against Australia in India’s second matchday in Guyana.

Raj Angad Bawa
Nineteen-year-old Raj Angad Bawa has emerged as a key figure on the Indian side after his exploits in the Under-19 Championships. Born in Himachal, Raj Angad belongs to a wealthy sports family. His grandfather, Tarlochan Singh Bawa, was a prominent member of the Indian Olympic team that won the 1948 Olympic gold, while his father Sukhwinder Singh was the coach of Yuvraj Singh.
A hard-hitting left winger and a skilled midfielder in the right arm, Raj Angad showed a little of his skill in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and the Challenger Trophy in October-November 2021. He received eight wickets out of four games during Un. -19 The Asian Cup is expected to coincide with consistent performances in both the Basque Country and the West Indies.

Yash Dhul
In the words of Indian coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar, he is an “instinctive captain”, with 19-year-old Yash Dhull of Delhi upgrading his leadership skills to complete his batting properly.
Dhull, who previously led Delhi in the U-16 and U-19 categories, was chosen skipper in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and Challenger Trophy as a result of strong blows. Siddharth Yadav
Siddharth Yadav has joined the Under-19 World Cup squad after a tough race in the Under-19 Challenger Trophy. The 18-year-old from Ghaziabad ran 361 runs in four innings, making him the second-highest scorer in the tournament. Ravi Kumar
The only left-wing striker in India’s bowling attack, Ravi Kumar has embarked on his final return preparations in the West Indies style. The 18-year-old surpassed the order of an Australian bat in India’s second practice game with figures of 4/34. While the Wickets missed out on much of the 19 U-19 Asian Cup, Ravi maintained his scoring rate at an excellent economy rate of 4.75 and is likely to share the duties of the new ball with Hangarg at this month’s World Cup.
