Police said the attacker was arrested in a southern German city and there are no other suspects.
Several people were killed and others injured in a knife attack in the southern German city of Wuerzburg, police said.
“The assailant was subdued after police used firearms. Several are injured and killed, ”police said on Twitter on Friday, without giving details about the suspect’s motives.
“There is no indication of a second suspect. There is no danger to the population, ”police said.
Bild reported that three people were killed and six injured in the attack.
Police spokeswoman Kerstin Kunick said officers were alerted around 5pm (3pm GMT) with a knife made in Barbarossa Square in the city center.
Videos posted on social media showed a young man carrying a knife holding a chair until police arrived. Another video appeared to show blood on the ground.
Bavarian Governor Markus Soeder was shocked by the news of the attack. “We are saddened by the victims and their families,” he wrote on Twitter.
Wuerzburg is a city of about 130,000 people located between Munich and Frankfurt.
