Sri Lanka vs West Indies Test Series: Embuldeniya takes five, Sri Lanka wins first test by running 187

Lasith Embuldeniya took five wickets in the final inning, with the Sri Lankan host winning 187 runs against the West Indies on Thursday in the first round of the Gallel, with a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

After a big 348 goal, the West Indies threw 160 before tea on the final day, with a lone warrior Nkrumah Bonner winning 68 in a wicket at Galle International Stadium.

Bonner was one of only three batters in the West Indies along with Joshua Da Silva, who scored 54 and Rahkeem Cornwall scored 13.

Sri Lanka took the lead in the first inning of 156 runs thanks to a 147 master by Dimuth Karunaratne and a four wicket made by Praveen Jayawickrama, helping the visitors to 230.

Clearing a few games of rain and threatening storm clouds, Karunaratne was again the star of Sri Lanka’s second entry with 83, assisted by Angelo Mathews, making 69 to set up a mountainous task to win the Antilles.

On the fourth day, the hosts ’spin-on trio did a quick job with the collapse of the West Indies supreme order, seeing the tourists lose four wickets in 15 balls to make just four runs.

At the start of the final day, against six of the 52, the West Indies held on to putting Bonner and Da Silva at 100, the biggest collaboration in the West Indies match.

Although Wicket provided a lot of support, both batters coped well with the threat of the Sri Lankan tour with the clever use of footwork.

He also left three chances for Sri Lanka to blame Pathum Nissanka.

After being reduced to 18 on the fourth day for the sixth day, the seventh wicker collaboration was crucial for the tourists.

At the time, the West Indies were in danger of getting the lowest scoring score in the test, as the match ended in four days.

His lowest total was 47 against England in Jamaica in 2004.

Sri Lanka dismissed Da Silva 15 minutes before lunch when Dhananjaya de Silva caught the slip to give Embuldeniya his third wick. Da Silva came out of 54,129 balls and had five fours.

Bonner kicked Ramesh Mendis in the 41st minute before the wicket, but the batsman successfully reviewed the decision.

But the West Indies, after their first test victory in Sri Lanka, fell after lunch.

Embuldeniya finished with a five wicket and Mendis completed well with four scalps.
