All of Elite Wrestling’s formulas include, to some extent, pairing up with top names and veterans with young stars of the future to pave the way for the company’s long-term path. AEW President Tony Khan has a lot in store for 2022, including at least a renewed focus on a young athlete.

Dante Martin, 20, was one of the favorite fighters for the AEW this year. He excelled in a story with Team Taz and Lio Rush, and faced MJF for the Dynamite Diamond Ring. Being half the Top Flight label team on earth, Dante isn’t the only Martin on AEW’s payroll.

“I think for a number of reasons, there are some people that I will be excited about next year,” Khan said. “For example, he was out of everyone’s control, but Darius Martin has been injured and I think he’s horrible. I’d love to be back soon and reunite with his brother, Dante. Dante has become a big star and I think they were horrible as a team.

“At the time of the injury, Darius was 21 years old and Dante was 19. Now Dante is 20 years old and has appeared a lot in Dynamite and Rampage and now it has been the main event of Dynamite. “I’m very excited about it. It’s an important name to keep in mind.”

After “Hangman” named Adam Pagek the Full Gear AEW World Champion, Khan revealed that the company’s first four champions – Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, Kenny Omega and Page – were determined from the start. From now on, the approach to booking the world title scene will be lighter.

“I think a lot has changed in the last few months and some big stars have joined the AEW. The 1st candidate is now Bryan Danielson,” Khan said. “I think that’s the biggest competition in the AEW and maybe the whole fight right now. Bryan Danielson vs. ‘Hangman’ Page. ..

“So the plans we had in advance have to come out of the window when you get into the position of a great Level 1 competitor. And so many other giant fighters have joined the AEW in recent months. “There’s a great photo in the title and there are a lot of other great fighters in the AEW who I think could be great champions like PAC, MJF, Jungle Boy, TNT Champion. Sammy Guevara, Darby Allin and many other great fighters who can move forward.”

Many promotions have elevated women to roles that oversee the development of their women’s departments. Gail Kim Impact, Mickie James NWA and Maria Kanellis-Bennett ROH. Khan highlighted Serena Deeb as a talent behind the AEW women’s and men’s sections.

“Serena Deeb is a great coach and she has a great passion for fighting and is very involved at the women’s level in the back. She has a great presence and a great spirit,” Khan said. “So he’s someone who coaches games, but not just at the women’s level. Serena also trains games at the men’s level. She has a great head for that.”

AEW had a big growth in 2021: it launched AEW Rampage, garnered over a dozen episodes for over a million viewers, and major signatures like Punk and Danielson. Khan is excited about what is in the sky.

“To continue to expand,” Khan said of the New Year’s resolution. “We have the Battle of the Belt and the Owen Hart Cup, and so many more to come in 2022. We’ve developed a lot of lists in the last year, more honestly than I ever dreamed. Year. So I’m looking forward to 2022. “It’s been one of the biggest pay-per-view shows we’ve ever done. Our four main box office shows of all time. The last two are the first two.
