Scott Boland has retained his place in the fourth Ashes Test in the Australian bowling attack after starring in his debut debut in the decisive English series last week.
Boland took six wickets for seven runs as England fell to the second inning in Melbourne to reach 68, allowing Australia to save the Ashes with two games to go.
The controversy over Boland’s starting line-up ended when veteran Josh Hazlewood was ruled out for the third game in a row due to a side tension.
Australia was forced to make a substitution by replacing Usman Khawaja with batsman Travis Head.
Khawaja returns for the first time since 2019 after being ruled out after a positive Head COVID-19 test.
Coronavirus concern in England has been largely off the field, with coach Chris Silverwood among the isolated support staff at Melbourne and losing the game in Sydney.
Thorpe will replace Silverwood
Assistant coach Graham Thorpe, who will lead the team in the absence of Silverwood, recalled the 35-year-old Stuart Broad’s pace in the only England squad change.
Zabala lost the selection for the first and third tests, but Ollie Robinson returned to replace him, but was left with a shoulder problem.
The pace of Australian bowling is strong, with skippers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc receiving good support in the last two races at Boland in Melbourne and Richardson and Michael Neser in Adelaide, as well as Cameron Green all over the world.
