It sank in the town of Surfside on Miami beach early Thursday overlooking the sea from a beach condom tower, trapping residents with debris and twisted metals and sending a cloud of debris across the neighborhood.

Numerous rescue units went to the partially collapsed building and saw firefighters surviving the concrete debris.

In a tweet, Miami-Dade police said one person was killed when he fell.

The 50-year-old Santo Mejil told the Miami Herald that his wife had called him from the building, where he was working as an assistant to an elderly woman.

“He said he heard a big explosion. It felt like an earthquake,” Mejil told the newspaper. He said he called her later and said rescuers would fall.

Authorities had yet to say a word about how many people lived in the building about the dead or details.

He was conducting search and rescue operations in Miami Dade Fire Rescue, and in a tweet said more than 80 units were “assisted by local firefighters.”

“We’re on the scene, so he’s still very active,” said Surfside Police Department Sargent Marian Cruz. “All I can say is that the building is 12 stories high. The back of the building has collapsed.”

Victor Cohen, who lives nearby, told WPLG that the building had undergone a major overhaul when the front wing of the ocean “fell like a crepe.”

Teams of firefighters walked among the debris, surviving and carrying it from the wreckage.

The collapse revealed several units standing in the building. The TV movies showed the beds, tables and chairs that were still left in the dilapidated apartments. The air conditioning units were hanging in some places in the building, now the wires were hanging.

Police blocked nearby roads and surrounded numerous fire and rescue vehicles, ambulances and police cars.

The debris from the collapse covered the cars between the two blocks with a light layer of dust.

Photos and videos of the scene show the collapse of the tower halfway through. Piles of debris and debris surrounded the entrance to the building. The department has yet to say what could cause the fall.

The development of sea-facing condos was built in 1981 on the southeast corner of Surfside, on the beach. He had two two-bedroom units on the market, asking for prices between $ 600,000 and $ 700,000.

The environment is a mix of new and old apartments, houses, condominiums and hotels, with restaurants and shops offering a combination of international residents and tourists. The community contrasts sharply with the hustle and bustle of South Beache, with a slower-paced neighborhood.
