Thousands of Palestinians displaced from the besieged Gaza Strip have begun returning to their homes to check for damage, and Israelis have returned to normal life as the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect after 11 days of deadly fighting.
The cost of rebuilding Palestinian officials on Friday was $ 10 billion. Five other bodies were recovered from the Gaza Strip, and 248 were killed, including 66 children, more than 1,900 injured.
The Israeli military said one Israeli soldier was killed, as well as 12 civilians, including two children. Hundreds of wounded were treated when rocket salvos caused panic and sent people as far away as Tel Aviv to the shelters.

Al Jazeera’s Harry Fawcett, who reported from Gaza, said about 1,000 homes were completely destroyed, 700 were severely damaged and another 14,000 homes were partially damaged.

Gaza City artist Malak Mattar told Al Jazeera that the ceasefire has brought relief to his family.
“We are calm. We can finally get long hours of sleep, it’s something we’ve been deprived of in the last 10 or 11 days; so it’s a good thing that we feel safe, that there are no bombings, ”Mattar said.
“Now we’re able to get a food supply … so we’re calm.”
Al-Aqsa raid
In occupied East Jerusalem, Israeli police cracked down on protesters in the area of the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Friday, two weeks after a similar crackdown led to an escalation of violence. It is a sacred site for both Muslims and Jews as they refer to the temple mountain.
Clashes also broke out in several other parts of East Jerusalem occupied by Israel, and at the crossing between Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank, Israeli police said hundreds of officers and border guards had been mobilized.
Al Jazeera’s Hoda Abdel-Hamid reported on the occupied East Jerusalem that other tensions were still high until the end of the Gaza war.
“There is a ceasefire but that ceasefire really only applies to Gaza. All other issues between the two sides are very much there,” Abdel-Hamid said.
“Today, people were also celebrating and they were happy that the Gaza war was over, but the tensions are there.”
Israel and Hamas achieve victory
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had killed “more than 200” fighters in Gaza during the bombing campaign against Palestinian armed groups, including 25 senior commanders, and said it was an “extraordinary success.”
Hamas, the Palestinian group that governs the coastal enclave, also achieved “victory”.
“We have dealt a painful and hard blow that will leave deep traces” in Israel, said political leader Ismail Haniya, who is committed to rebuilding Gaza.
Iran also thanked Hamas for “providing funds and weapons.”
Many world leaders welcomed the ceasefire agreement. U.S. President Joe Biden said he believed there was a “real opportunity to move forward” and stressed his commitment to “work for it”. The European Union has stressed that working for a “two-state solution” is the only viable option. Russia and China have called for a return to peace talks.
Netanyahu’s office announced an “unconditional” ceasefire on Thursday evening, and was soon confirmed by Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad – another armed group in Gaza.
Ceasefire monitors
Egyptian state media reported that two Egyptian security delegations had arrived from both sides to monitor the ceasefire agreement.
The U.S. State Department said senior diplomat Antony Blinken “will meet with Israeli, Palestinian and regional counterparts in the coming days to discuss recovery efforts and work together to build a better future for Israel and Palestine.”
UN President Antonio Guterres said Israel and the Palestinians now have a responsibility to have a serious dialogue to resolve the root causes of the conflict.
He also called for a “strong support package for rapid and sustainable reconstruction and recovery”.
