A doubles tennis specialist had to retire from his match while returning a serve to the Qatar Open after injuring one eye. The damage was caused by a bad accident when Tim Puetz’s racket bounced off the ground, causing the handles to hit his face.

Puetz was trying to return a serve that was going in the middle, and since he couldn’t make a good jump, he stretched out his arm to try to make contact with the ball. Holding the racket to the ground, he accidentally released his instrument, bouncing and shuffling with the player’s perspective.

In addition to the severe pain that Puetz suffered, which caused him to bend over the court for a long time, a serious problem was that his vision was impaired. Freddie Nielsen told his partner that moving his head damaged his eyesight.

“I can’t see it very well,” Puetz told a coach. “I see Freddie pretty well when I’m still. But if I look around, I can’t see very well.”

Due to the withdrawal of the match, the opponents, Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah, got the victory. Farah sent condolences to his opponent in an interview on the court.

“I’m very sorry for Tim,” he said. “It’s something that none of us want to hit in the eye, and I hope it recovers very well.”
