Tyson Fury Vs. Deontay Wilder 3: The Trilogy was changed to October 9 after Fury tested positive for COVID-19

After several delays in the trilogy fight, the third encounter between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder will have to wait another few months. The fight, which was originally scheduled for July 24 in Las Vegas, was officially postponed to Thursday, after Fury tested positive for COVID-19 while he was in training. The fight will now take place on October 9 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas while they are broadcasting on ESPN / FOX PPV.

“I just wanted to break the‘ Big Dosser ’on July 24, but I think the beating will have to wait,” Fury said. “Make no mistake, I’ll be back and I’ll be better than ever. We’ll fight on October 9th, and I’ll spark!”

The trilogy took a long time to develop after time and contract conflicts. Fury significantly stopped Wilder in the rematch in February 2020, but they both agreed on a trilogy clause with the loser getting a short 60/40 lead. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, difficulties in reaching agreements for the trilogy, Fury and his team negotiated with joint champion Anthony Joshua.

But an arbitrator decided that in May Wilder had a fight against the trilogy and that it must be done immediately.

“We went to arbitration for that,” said Shelly Finkel, Wilder’s director. “He wanted what he owed. He remains ready to regain his world title on October 9.”
