Fans of African National Cup stadiums should be vaccinated against COVID

Fans of the African National Cup finals in Cameroon next month must fully vaccinate against COVID-19 and show a negative test result before entering the stadiums, the African Football Confederation (CAF) said on Thursday.

The competition, which is made up of teams from 24 countries, will begin on January 9, but concerns about the spread of the Coricavirus Omicron variant among roaming and players have pushed organizers to tighten restrictions. Under the previous rules, only players, coaches and officials were required to be inserted and tested.

“Health authorities will take all necessary measures to facilitate vaccinations and conduct COVID testing,” CAF said in a joint statement with the Cameroonian government.

COVID has damaged the organization of the tournament, which has been postponed to June.

It was revealed this week that the European Clubs Association (ECA) had threatened not to release the players because they were concerned that there was no COVID-19 protocol and that the players had to be in quarantine when they returned to their clubs.

CAF sent Secretary-General Veron Mosengo-Omba to Cameroon to speed up preparations in a move that raises concerns about the country’s readiness.

It is unclear how the authorities will administer the lowest vaccine rates in Cameroon. It has spread just enough doses to vaccinate 1.9 percent of the population, according to him Reuters data.
