The U.S. far-right cell Patriot Front made inscriptions of his name on a monument to a black man killed by police.

According to police, the statue of George Floyd disappeared and was marked with the name of a neo-Nazi group in New York City, less than a week after it was revealed.

Police said they found a nearly two-foot-tall monument to a 46-year-old black man killed by a police officer in May last year covered in paint on Thursday morning.

The inscription belonged to the far-right Patriot Front cell in the United States, which is believed to have vandalized another tribute to Floyd in neighboring New York.

Authorities released a video of four people near the crime scene in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, one of whom had a spray can.

The dismissals took place before the 45-year-old officer Derek Chauvin, a 45-year-old officer, sparked the biggest demonstrations in favor of racial justice in the U.S. after the assassination of Floyd.

New York City police said they are investigating the attack on the monument.

“I will be absolutely clear with the neo-Nazi groups that did this: get out of our situation,” tweeted New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, adding that specialist state police officers would offer to help with the investigation.

“We will bring these cowards to justice,” New York Mayor Bill de Blasio commented on Twitter.

The wooden statue – made by artist Chris Carnabuci – was unveiled on Saturday by Terrence Floyd, George’s brother.

In late Wednesday or early Thursday, another statue of Floyd, in front of Newark (New Jersey) City Hall, was also covered in paint.

According to NJ.com news, the inscription “Patriot Front” was also found there, before the bronze statue was immediately cleaned.

Newark Police launched an investigation.

Minnesota law imposes a minimum sentence of 12.5 years on Chauvin, who has been jailed since he was convicted of three counts of murder and manslaughter two months ago.

But prosecutors have cited Chauvin’s “particularly cruel” behavior and sought a maximum sentence of 30 years.
