The board of the Zimbabwe football association has been suspended after the ignominy of the World Cup

Zimbabwe’s participation in the African National Cup final next January was called into question on Tuesday as the country’s Sports and Recreation Commission canceled its football association (ZIFA) committee.

The announcement was made without explanation, which the commission said would be determined later, but it came after finishing last in the Zimbabwe World Cup qualifying team without winning a match.

He is confident that FIFA will reject it and attract the threat of suspension from the governing body of world football, which seeks to protect its member FAs from government intervention.

Usually, governments are forced to back down by threatening to suspend all football activities in their country.

Zimbabwe took a 1-1 lead over Ethiopia in the final round of the World Cup on Sunday at home to Harare after a late draw.

His form in the campaign was comfortably qualified at the start of the year in contrast to the Nations Cup finals.

In the World Cup qualifiers, Croatian coach Zdravko Logarusic was released, and on Monday captain Khama Billiat withdrew from international football unexpectedly, despite having the chance to play in the Nations Cup within a month.

The Zimbabwean football association has been in a constant financial crisis for years, and the team was expelled from the 2018 World Cup qualifiers without paying the outstanding debt to former coach Jose ‘Valinhos’ Claudinei, despite the grace period given to him by FIFA.

ZIFA has also lost several courts to other creditors and has suffered the ignominy of a sheriff who was transporting office equipment to sell and pay off debts.

He has also been forced to use the bus to take his players to a qualifying match in Malawi on a 600-kilometer journey of more than 12 hours.

ZIFA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Sports and Recreation Committee is a statutory body that regulates and develops sport and leisure in Zimbabwe.
