The Danish national football team will wear “human rights messages” in their training clothes for next year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Denmark secured a place in the championship last month. In the run-up to the standings, the Danish football federation said on Wednesday it had launched a series of “critical initiatives”.
Qatar has been criticized for discriminatory laws and conditions for migrant workers preparing the country for the tournament.
The Danish football federation, known as the DBU, said the two sponsors of the training suits had not left any exposure on the clothes and would carry “critical messages and brands”.

The federation added that it will reduce the number of trips to Qatar for staff and partners, so that “participating in the World Cup finals is mainly about participating in sports and not promoting the events of the World Cup organizers.”
“DBU is strongly critical of the Qatar World Cup, but now we are stepping up our efforts and critical dialogue so that we can take advantage of the fact that we are ready to work for more change in the country,” the Danish footballer said. Jacob Jensen, the federation’s managing director, said.
The federation added that it will conduct a “continuous diligence” to choose the hotel and other services in Qatar to ensure that labor rights are respected. He also said he would look into new initiatives to improve conditions in Qatar.
In 2010, Qatar won the right to host the World Cup in a controversial FIFA vote, sparking corruption investigations throughout the bidding process. FIFA found no evidence to guarantee the removal of Qatari’s hospitality rights.
This emirate, which is rich in natural gas, has spent tens of millions of dollars to deal with the organization of an event to build hotels, a new transportation system and elegant stadiums.
