I am always amazed by those who set weekly goals and hold them. We asked readers about the habits they kept, and the stories were awesome! Here are 10 readers who inspired us this week …

“A couple of years ago, I moved to Denver because of my partner’s work. I felt pretty lost in making friends, and I also felt a deep imposter syndrome with the activity culture here, as many people love snow sports, mountain biking, and climbing. They are high-barrier activities that require tools and skills that they feel are insurmountable. Trying to fill time, I started walking on the weekends while my partner was working on Saturdays. I thought how hard it could be to walk: all you need are boots and water. I went alone, listening to podcasts for miles, as if the hosts were going to be my friends. Over time, I increased my strength from 12 miles to 12 miles, +600 ft. Height +2,800 ft. Although I’ve made friends ever since, my weekend walk is similar to church and I prefer solo worship. I’m incredibly lucky to have been able to maintain this habit in a pandemic, and I know deeply the closeness and the privilege of having the physical ability to walk so often. I preach the good word of the solo walk to all the women who ask, because it has strengthened me a lot. “- Lara (above)

“My habit is to think‘ in the future ’every day. If I have a terrible day ahead of me, I will prepare a meal for the future, which I will not have time for lunch. When I don’t feel like doing a full skin care routine, I think “The future will thank you for taking care of your skin!” We always think because we think about what our partners, children and parents will need in the future. I’ve got a habit of doing that for myself. ‘ – Destined

“I’m a professional songwriter, but I also teach music to pay bills at a middle school. Three years ago, a friend in Nashville invited me to join a singing group. We have to send in a complete song every week, and if we miss a single one, they kick us out. For a few weeks, it was very difficult to write a song; I had to wake up late and sing quietly after my children and husband were in bed. But the rite has become an absolute salvation, especially during the COVID era. A few months ago, I recorded a new album. It certainly felt something special. ”- Lacey

I used to do races (from 5K to marathons), but after I had kids it was hard to find time to train. This year, I realized that a decade had passed since my last race! Since my birthday in early June, I’ve been doing a mile a day. It’s long enough to be challenging, but as short as I can make excuses. It seems like a regular part of my day, like brushing my teeth. ”- Anne

“My habit is to continue with dear friends. Even though we graduated from college 12 years ago and have since moved to different cities (and even some countries), my friends and I have always been in touch to stay in touch and see each other when we are the same. geographical area. Recently, we went to a fascinating alpaca farm in New Jersey, where we had the best time. ”- Sarah

“Throughout my life, I bit my nails. I’m a concerned person by nature, and it was a release. I finally decided to stop in January 2020. Little did I know that an event that was causing anxiety was in the corner! But I kept it that way! Clean, fresh nails boost confidence. It’s also amazing to look at my hands and see the noticeable result of hard work. ”- Molly

“Being pre-pandemic, I went to my Barre3 studio three times a week. During the pandemic, I took their live streaming classes every day. I am very grateful that we are healthy because of the studios and monitors that focused their business. ”- Vishakha

“We got it a puppy last spring, and since it woke us up so early, I finally started prioritizing reading – what else is there to do at 6am? I’m glad to say I’m stepping on my 2021 reading goal! My mornings are now incomplete without that. ”- Lily

“During the pandemic, I started sending letters every week to friends and family. At first, it was just an excuse to help the USPS, but now it has become a common meditative act of love for the people in my life. When I pick up a multi-colored pen, I focus on the person I’m writing about, sending love across the universe. Also, since it wasn’t enough to send messages to friends and family, I joined Postcrossing (after reading about it in the CoJ comments section), so now I also send good wishes to strangers around the world. “- Mayor

“For most of twenty years, physical activity wasn’t really my thing, but then I found a lot of unoccupied time due to divorce. When I didn’t book a day or an evening, that time was constantly extended to me. As a distraction, I started riding my bike. A lot. So much so that when I was ready for the bike shop, I thought about how I would work without it. Walking helped me process emotions that were too complex to sort of sitting still. I was heartbroken, sad, angry and desperate on the pedals until I started to feel free, victorious, content and restless. Every time I calculated miles I was overwhelmed by the sheer pride that gave me so much pain in my life time, filled with so much bass. Last year, I walked more than 1,750 miles making the best memories – 30 miles with my mom on her 30th birthday, loops around a lake following beers with my dad, and 1,000 miles with friends on a camping trip. ”- Jenna
