If you are in a camp that thinks the status of your desk is a direct reflection of your work ethic, office organization will probably be a high priority at the beginning of the New Year. As I am refurbished with a chaotic desk, I check: an organized workspace makes it much easier to get in the way of preparation, whether you’re in the office or at home. For ideas on how to clean up your mess, home office design tips, and encouragement, we turned to designer Cailey Damron.
Owner of a quiet upstairs space (scroll downstairs to buy a room!), Damron offers his best tips for organizing a work area, even if it has limited square footage, promotes productivity, and helps you stay focused. And, given that the nature of evolution since 2020 of office culture, the designer shares his thoughts above home office trends.

How home offices are shaping design trends
The pandemic completely changed the way families live and work. For example, parents who work from home now need spaces to be able to take calls to work without being disturbed. Many families have converted bedrooms, garages and more into home offices to meet this need. That being said, I would say that an evolving trend is to move away from fully open settlements; closing some rooms allows for privacy when needed.
Productivity Design
I always recommend having natural light in a home office so that you can stay alert during the day and boost your mood. Another productivity hack (guilty of not always sticking to it) is keeping the table cluttered.
The best way to start cutting the mess
Start with closed closets all the way! Whether it’s built-in ceilings or IKEA storage drawers, be sure to consider more storage than you think, as you’re likely to accumulate more stuff over the years.

The only object that every home office needs
Some of my favorite office items are the ones that keep me going. That could be a significant note from my husband, a crystal from a previous boss, or something taken from nature. I would encourage those who design their home office to include some personal items that will help them feel supported and focused on long working days.
How to Design an Office for Small Spaces
People were very creative with this pandemic with home offices. Some of my favorite small space offices I’ve seen have become cabinet conversions and back console sofas turned into desks. Where there is a touch of will and creativity, there is a way to operate a small home office space.
Perfect Home Office, Layered
When it comes to materials for customer home offices, I always like to include natural materials, such as a marble or wood table, a natural wool rug under the table, or a comfortable leather table chair.
