Karim Benzema sentenced to one year in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros in a sex tape case

French and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was sentenced to one year in prison and fined 75,000 euros ($ 84,000) in a sex tape case that rocked French football on Wednesday.

Benzema was found guilty of taking part in an attempt to blackmail his French teammate Mathieu Valbuena in 2015.

The decision of the Versailles court is unlikely to affect Benzema’s sporting future. The striker is one of the favorites to win the Golden Ball in Paris on November 29 after a spectacular season in Madrid. Noel Le Great, president of the French federation, has already said that Benzema will allow him to continue playing with France despite his guilt.

Benzema’s lawyers have said he will appeal.

Benzema, who denied having done anything wrong, did not attend the Versailles trial last month and the verdict was not. The other four defendants were also found guilty and did not appear in court on Wednesday.
