North Korea launches alleged ballistic missile: Japan | Weapons News

North Korea fired an alleged ballistic missile from its east coast on Wednesday, Japanese officials said, while South Korea said the country fired an unidentified missile.

The launch would be the first of the new year for nuclear-armed North Korea, and it comes days after leader Kim Jong Un promised to continue developing the army to deal with the unstable international situation.

Japanese coastguards, who reported the shooting, said it could have been a ballistic missile, but did not provide further details.

The South Korean Chief of Staff said North Korea had fired an unidentified bullet from the east coast without clearing it.

Pyongyang fired a series of missiles last year, and said in October that it had tested one.new type”Submarine Ballistic Missile (SLBM). It was the first test of an SLBM since 2019.

The country has banned ballistic missile testing under UN sanctions.
