As we enter June, we look forward to a new summer season. Here it will be one of the highlights of Nantucket Nantucket Historical Associationsixth grade Nantucket by Design ceremony, August 5-7. Prior to the event, I am pleased to be collaborating with the NHA to produce several videos that combine the strong history of Nantucket with the power of great design. I am delighted to share our first Spotlight, which features one of the most famous icons of Nantucket’s rich craft culture. Please join me with the host, Mary Lacoursiere, NHA’s Director of Education, and several of the Island’s master craftsmen, as we explore the history, traditions, and styles of Nantucket lantern baskets. Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum exhibition, celebrating the new NHA affiliation, Hadwen House.
As the interest in crafts, basket weaving and rattan continues to rise, Nantucket Lightship Baskets is a great time to review. With a fascinating history and a wide global impact, I hope you enjoyed learning more about this great Nantucket treasure.
In the coming months, I will share more about this year’s NBD event. As Kelly Williams explained in our chair, “Our theme this year is Renovation and we look forward to a tremendous debate about how design can renovate not only the house but also the spirit, as well as how to renovate our precious old homes in a thoughtful way. Modern life.” because we will pass together, in a personal format and a virtual ETA, our signature will begin with designer Keynote Design Luncheon Nate Berkus, who will come to us on the island!
