Midfielder Lindsey Horan has been named Female Footballer of the Year for the first time.
The 27-year-old led the U.S. in 1,707 minutes in 22 games in 2021, tied for fourth with six goals and second with five assists. He played as a defensive midfielder.
Horan scored two goals in 14 games this year for the Portland Thorns National Football League. She won the U.S. Young Player of the Year Award in 2013 and was the third person to win two awards, joining Tobin Heath and Julie Edges.

That ended with 36% of the votes cast by national team coaches, players who had at least one international appearance in 2021 on Thursday, members of the board of directors and athletes, NWSL coaches, media, administrators and university coaches. The fans voted for the first time and their votes had a weighting of 15%.
Striker Carli Lloyd, who won in 2008 and 2015, was second with 29% and midfielder Rose Lavelle was third with 19%.
Trinity Rodman, a 19-year-old striker, was named Young Female Player of the Year after winning the Rookie of the Year in the Women’s National Football League with the Washington Spirit. Rodman, the daughter of retired Dennis Rodman of the NBA, received 48%, midfielder Catarina Macario 32% and defender Emily Fox 13%.
