The number of infections, largely driven by Omicron variants, is breaking records in North America, Europe and Asia.
However, the WHO believes that the pandemic could end this year if countries work together.
Many studies have found that Omicron causes milder illnesses than other variants.
Some scientists believe that Omicron could relocate the Delta and signal the beginning of the end of the health crisis.
But is that trust justified?
