Michael Clark has announced that he will leave Justin Langer if he wins Australia Ashes

Former skipper Michael Clarke believes Justin Langer will step down as coach if Australia adds the Ashes victory to the last T20 World Cup title.

Langer, who was named Australia’s head coach after the 2018 ball handling scandal, helped deliver the country’s T20 World Cup title on Sunday.

“Australia wanted to be the best team in the world. They wanted to play in a proud cricket record, and we just won the World Cup,” Clark said. Sydney Morning Herald.

“If we also win the ashes, he has got everything that has come here and he knows that Langer (Langer) will not train for the wrong reasons,” he added.

The job of the former test opener has been under the scanner since Australia lost to India in the Tests earlier this year, but was backed by Nick Hockley, the general manager of Cricket Australia (CA).

There was also news of a rift between the players in the Australian locker room and Langer.

“I hope – not just for the players, but for him as well – to continue with this form, to win the Ashes series and then be able to do what he wants,” Clark said.

“If he thinks his job is over, I think he will leave, and I would love to see him leave on his terms,” he added.

The 50-year-old, who led Australia to an ashes victory in the UK in 2019, is hired until mid-2022.

Clark praised David Warner of the T20 World Cup “Player of the Year” and said the starting player will “certainly” be confident that he will take his sensational form to the Ashes.

“He was great during the tournament and still had the courage to make his natural play. Yes, I have no doubt that he would enter these test series full of confidence,” he said.

“It’s amazing what runs do to a batter. It’s so important and the only way to really regain confidence is to run.” Australia will take on England’s main rival Ashes in the Ashes, facing Brisbane on 8 December.
