There is no denying that we love decorate around here. In fact readjustment of bookshelves or a coffee table it is our version of meditation. But what if you could build and decorate an entire home from scratch? Now, that’s the dream and that’s why we fell in love with Ashley Robertson’s home tour so much. creator of Teacher’s Diva fashion blog built its five bedroom home in Dallas (Texas) from scratch in 2018 and we have lived through it ever since. Now she and her husband, Austin, and their two boys — George and Charlie — are living happily ever after.
But of course he didn’t do it alone. For this project, Robertson teamed up with award-winning interior designer Ginger Curtis Urban Designs it was really an extension of his personal style to create the house: modern elegance with a touch of glam! “I like to consider the integrity of a space, its surroundings, as well as the people who live in it,” Curtis explains. “I also look back to find inspiration from decades past. I am very moved by nature and ecological craft moments. ” To be able to design this house from start to finish with complete creative freedom became a dream come true for Robertson and Curtis to really deliver on their wish list. “We wanted to create a space for Ashley and her family that was not only livable / comfortable, but also branded with her style and business,” she explains. “He uses his house as a background for a lot of his content and we considered this to be very important.”

How would you describe the style of your home architecture?
GINGER CURTIS: Traditional modern. Familiar with architectural features, but with a fresh modern look.
Did you have a budget or timeout?
CURTIS: We continued on the right track with the budget (with some splurs). The biggest delay was in the construction phase, we worked patiently. Ashley and Austin had a great attitude and a lot of patience.
How did you and Ginger decide on the color scheme?
ASHLEY ROBERTSON: He knew I wanted to be neutral, but he even stretched me to do things out of my comfort zone … and I’m so happy !! I was in a white kitchen and was encouraged to use black and wood details. I love.
What were some of your biggest discoveries?
ROBERTSON: Oh so much. Probably our lights. I love them all so much. Oh, and the marble of our island. It’s very different from what I see in many other spaces. I find it art.
We love a neutral and nuanced approach. How do you keep your designs so balanced and timeless?
CURTIS: Lots of interesting textures and moments with art, lighting and a smooth pattern.
Can you explain the minimalist approach to your design?
CURTIS: We first start and consider the basic elements of the home, namely the floors, walls, ceiling and exterior view. It’s a fine balance of not adding too much or too little. We work on editing the pieces carefully and often re-editing them until we get the right balance. Color is very important, above all else it will affect the atmosphere and boost the space. Choose the colors you want to enter carefully. Ask yourself what mood / feeling you want each room to turn on. In our new book Beauty by design, we have a whole chapter dedicated to this.
What do you think your house says about you?
ROBERTSON: We like to be at the forefront of design when we have a home where we can really “live”. We have two little boys and we needed a space for them to grow up and play. Curtis was able to give us the design and look we wanted, making it a place for boys to play. I don’t want people to come in and feel like they can’t sit or touch anything.
Any tips for creating a minimal space, but still warm and attractive?
CURTIS: Natural and organic elements always bring warmth and a beautiful texture to a space. That beautiful mix of modern but nice.
What do you like most about space? Do you have a favorite design feature or room?
ROBERTSON: My favorite rooms are the office and the master bedroom. The office is very dramatic and everyone who comes home wants to stop and take a look inside. That also means I have to make sure it’s clean, ja! My office has some really nice moments, I think people have a curiosity of their own. Our bedrooms feel very quiet and peaceful. Curtis wanted to feel like a hotel room, and I think he nailed it.
What advice can you give to beginners in design?
CURTIS: Take risks, don’t be afraid to experiment with new ideas or where you get your inspiration from.
List exactly your main design influences, what design principles do you take and implement in your practice?
CURTIS: I have to point out the queen here, Kelly Wearstler. His ability to move away from symmetry and create balance is a miracle. We often deliberately look for ways to generate interest through asymmetry.
Any design tips or tricks you can share?
CURTIS: Duplicate! We want to double or triple the width of the curtain panels to create large volumes and textures. The fabric is great, but the fabric is even better!
Do you have the wisdom to share with anyone who might be a decorator to start a home design project?
CURTIS: Be patient, so be patient. There are many industry challenges that are beyond anyone’s control due to supply chain problems, and we will all have to wait a little longer for our projects to be completed.
