Boxing Calendar for 2022: Luis Ortiz vs. Keith Thurman vs. Charles Martin Mario Barrios to tap

2021 was a wild year in the boxing ring, with some moving moments and some iconic moments that will live on forever in the sport’s tradition. 2022 is shaping up to give more of the same thing.

The year will begin on New Year’s Day with a Fox pay ceremony with heavyweights Luis Ortiz and Charles Martin. The two world championships will end in January when Joe Smith Jr. defends the WBO lightweight title against Callum Johnson on January 15 and Gary Russell Jr. will compete for the WBC featherweight title on January 22 against Mark Magsayo. also charged in the first weekend, with a bit of parity prevailing against Keith Thurman Mario Barrios.

It’s a strong start to the year, but things will continue to go up, with some struggles being assured. Among them is the rematch between Oleksandr Usy and Anthony Joshua for the recognized four heavyweight world championships. Usy defeated Joshua last September to win WBA, IBF and WBO titles. No date for the rematch has been set yet, but both sides are aiming for April.

Other unified and undisputed champions will also be competing in 2022. The undisputed junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor will defend his belt on February 26 against Jack Catterall. Also, at some point in the year, George Cambosos Jr. the lightweight joint champion will defend the belts he won in a stunning November event for Teofimo Lopez. The opponent of the Cambodians and the next date are not specified but the chances seem endless for the Cambodians.
