James Anderson is not a spent force, but England need to look beyond the 39-year-old to evolve as a red ball outfit, former England captain Michael Vaughan said on Monday.
Anderson Test is the most prolific cricketer with 640 wickets in his name, but Vaughan said it was time for England to start knocking him out.
“Managing Jimmy’s retirement will be key to this team moving forward,” Vaughan wrote in a column in the Daily Telegraph. “Her future is the big elephant in the room.
“It’s not Jimmy’s removal. It’s all right for English cricket. It’s a good thing to make the transition, but to do it respectfully.

“You can only do that by having strong conversations about what’s going to happen to Jimmy.”
Vaughan believes that England needs to start planning for the future.
“England can’t move forward and be a world force with Anderson in mind,” Vaughan said.
“I love watching Jimmy Bowl. He’s a poet with the ball in his hand. He could still be the best bowler in England for another two years.
“(Former Australian bowling alley) Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath retired with a year or two of high-level cricket remaining.
Anderson has taken eight wickets in the current Ashes series as Australia leads 3-0 after four tries.
