Andrew’s lawyers have come after a U.S. judge convicted him of dismissing a civil lawsuit alleging sexual assault.

Prince Andrew II, the second son of Queen Elizabeth II, who is facing a civil lawsuit over sexual assault in the United States, has relinquished his military honor and charitable duties, Buckingham Palace said.

“With the Queen’s approval and consent, the military affiliation of the Duke of York and the royal protection have been returned to the Queen,” he said on Thursday.

“The Duke of York will not continue to assume any public duty and he is defending this case as a private citizen.”

The move came after Andrew’s lawyers were unable to convince a U.S. judge to discard a civil lawsuit alleging sexual abuse.

A royal source said Andrew would no longer use the title of “His Royal Highness” in any official office and that his other roles would be shared with other members of the royal family. They would not return to Prince Andrew.
