Yana Sizikova suspected that she had deliberately lost a match at the Roland-Garros tournament last year.

Russian tennis player Yana Sizikova has been arrested for settling in a doubles match at the French Open last year, they have complained.

Sizikova, 26, was arrested on Thursday after playing in this year’s Roland-Garros tournament, the AFP news agency reported, citing a source in the Paris prosecutor’s office.

They opened last year to investigate possible corruption and fraud in September in a first-round match that defeated American pair Sizikova and Madison Brengle Andreea Mitu and Patricia Maria Tig.

The suspicion was that there was a very high level of gambling activity registered in countries outside France and, when it was reported to law enforcement, a source close to the case then told AFP.

One particle in particular, the fifth in the second set, was being investigated by researchers after two unusual double flaws in Sizikova appeared.

A police source confirmed to Reuters on Friday that Sizikova had been arrested and detained. The source did not specify the reasons for his arrest.

A separate source familiar with the matter told Reuters that the arrest was linked to allegations of resolving the match.

The French Tennis Federation (FFT) confirmed Sizikova’s arrest but could not comment further.

Shamil Tarpischev, president of the Russian Tennis Federation, told the RIA news agency that Sizikova had been informed of his arrest.

“We have not received any documents (as to the case), so it is difficult to make an assessment of what happened,” Tarpischev said.

The TASS news agency reported that the Russian embassy in Paris had been informed of the situation.

On Thursday, Sizikova and her new partner, Ekaterina Alexandrova, were defeated in 1-6, 1-6 hours by Australian pairs Storm Sanders and Ajla Tomljanovic in the first round of the women’s doubles.

Sizikova is in 101st place in the women’s doubles standings.
