Poems can change lives, NBD – Wired PR Lifestyle Story

It was given by Ethan Hawke TED talk about creativity, and this part took my breath away …

Do you think human creativity is important? Well, hmm. Most people don’t spend a lot of time thinking about poetry. Is not it? They have a life to live, and they’re not so worried about Allen Ginsberg’s poems or anyone else’s poems, until their father dies, they go to the funeral, you lose a child, someone breaks your heart, they don’t love you. Already, and all of a sudden, you’re desperate to make sense of this life, and, ‘Has anyone ever felt so bad? How did they get out of this cloud? ‘

Or vice versa – something great. You know someone and your heart explodes. You love them so much, you can’t even see them live. You know, you’re dizzy. ‘Did anyone feel that way? What’s wrong with me? ‘And then art isn’t luxury, it’s really food. We need it.

My mumher husband is 95 years old (26 years older than her), and thinks a lot about death and dying. She loves this poem and says that it makes her feel seen at this stage of her life:

Heavy rain
Made by Billy Collins

We ended up on the couch last night
trying to remember
all the friends who have died so far,

and I wrote them this morning
sorted alphabetically
on the other side of the shopping list
you left it on the kitchen table.

Many of them were taken away
as if a hand from heaven
it was good to remember,
I was thinking
under the cold lights of a supermarket
while I drove the cart with a moving cart
up and down long corridors of stress.

I was looking for the blue,
English muffins, linguini, heavy cream,
light bulbs, apples, bacon,
and everything on the list
I managed to keep my food regular,

until the electric doors pass,
I stopped where I realized,
when I flipped the list,
I forgot about Terry O’Shea
as well as bananas and bread.

He was already,
flows, as they say in Ireland,
people drive through the lot.
And then I started,
walk slowly and accurately,
a man soaked
carrying food bags,
walking as in a procession in honor of the dead.

I felt I owed Terry,
who was such a powerful painter,
for almost forgetting him
and to all the others who completed it
a circle in my head on the screen.

Now I walked more slowly
in the face of compassion
the dead were spreading to a comrade,

moreover I was in no hurry to return
to the kitchen, where I should tell you
it’s all about Terry, bananas and bread.

Poetry was important to me once again in my marriage. I was so wrong I wanted to express my deepest feelings, but it all seemed like it. Until when. At our ceremony, our friend Kenan read Hafiz’s ‘Our Union’, which made me cry; and my dad read it a few years later when I went through a depression, which also made me cry!

Our unity is that you feel cold, so I reach for a cover to cover my trembling feet. / A hungry one enters your body, so I run to my garden and start strengthening the potatoes. / You asked for a few words of comfort and guidance, and I quickly kneel down beside you with a whole book as a gift. / You are hurt by loneliness when you cry so much one night, and here I say that it is a rope, tie it around me, I will be your companion in life.

Parents can turn your world upside down and be a poet Kate baer “A four-year-old mother,” he couldn’t understand more.

Deleted sentences
Dear husband. Dear dear. My darling
heart. No, I don’t want to participate in the barbecue
cruelly scheduled for noon. I do not want
go to the recital too. Will you tell your sister
that too? I saw you dancing in the morning
our daughter and for a moment, I almost cried.
I hate it when people say they almost cried. Why even
mentioned at all?

What time will you be home? What time do you have
do you think you can stay home What time do we need
while you wait outside for pasta in the meadow
does it boil and the child cries because he misses you?
Oh, before I go – what time will you be home?

Sometimes I wonder what would happen to you
he died and I had to write a eulogy
mine. What would I say? And who would come out
litter bins on Sunday or dark nights
while the children were crying fever in dreams?

What time will you be home?

And while some poems make you feel understood, others help you understand the people around you.

The widow’s cry
Made by Richard Brautigan

It doesn’t get pretty cold
to go and get some wood
From neighbors.

Oh, my heart. What poems have resonated in your life? I would love to hear love.
