A review of the video for the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers has been added

CONCACAF will conduct a video review from next week in the last two windows of the World Cup standings.

The governing body of North and Central American and Caribbean football was criticized by U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter in September for not having an Assistant Video Referee (VAR).

“That’s where the modern game goes,” he said. “We want to be there with the whole world, with our region, in terms of quality and technology. And we have to find a way to do that. It’s done.”

CONCACAF said on Wednesday that the VAR will be used for the remaining six rounds for each of the eight teams in the final phase. It will also be added to this year’s CONCACAF Women’s Championship, the Women’s World Cup and Olympic Championships, which is used to determine CONCACAF’s men’s and women’s Under-20 Championship and this year’s CONCACAF Champions League standings.

FIFA World Cup regulations allow regional confederations to implement video review and goal line technology. CONCACAF said in April that it was using VAR for the remainder of the 2021 Champions League, last June’s League of Nations finals and last summer’s Gold Cup.

FIFA used the VAR at the 2018 Men’s World Cup and the 2019 Women’s World Cup. The Premier League approved video reviews for 2019-20 and the UEFA European Champions League season in the same season. UEFA started using it in September for the World Cup qualifiers.
