Anthony Dirrell scored a violent one-shot knockout against Canelo Alvarez, calling him the winner of the Caleb Plant.

LAS VEGAS – Despite flirting with retirement in recent years, Anthony Dirrell, a two-time middleweight, proved on Saturday that he is still not fully finished.

Dirrell (34-2-2, 25 KOs) landed the perfect right uppercut on the ground and finished passenger Marcos Hernandez in a 168-pound fight inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The fight served as the main event Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant fight for four world superweight titles.

Hernandez (15-5-2, 3 KOs) came to his feet with a count of 10, but Judge Celestino Ruiz did not like what he saw in California’s original eyes and gave up the fight in 22 seconds of the 4th round.

“I had to slip in and put it on the button,” Dirrell said. “We practiced that in the gym and it worked.”

Dirrell’s uppercut turned Hernandez’s chin around as he slowly warmed up to give a violent end to the fight. Dirrell pulled out Hernandez with a 46-40 lead, according to ShoStats, and held a celebration in the ring after the victory.

After the right, 37-year-old Dirrell made the case to move forward to face the Alvarez-Plant winner. Michigan bounced back beautifully from a draw against Kyrone Davis in February.

“We’ve worked hard for that and that’s the key,” Dirrell said. “If I give 100 percent, I know I can do it. We’ve been working every day for the last two months. I think I’ve won. [his last fight against Kyrone Davis] and it was difficult without the crowds ”.
