Welcome SportsstarHobart 5. Ash Test Coverage.

REPORT, FIRST DAY

Travis Head returned from COVID-19 to break a 101 belligerent and Cameron Green made 74 to revive Australia after a top-notch break on Friday in the opening day of the final Ashes Test on Friday night.

England’s full attack reduced Australia to 12-3 in a strong start for the tourists as they have already lost a five-Test series after a hard-fought defeat in Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne.

Head put up 71 for Marnus Labuschagn (44) and added 121 with Green as Australia went 241-6 before the rain forced the starting poles into the pink ball competition at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

Alex Carey will start on the 10th on the second day with Mitchell Starc, who has yet to open his account.

Earlier, English tailors were stripped of their highest level in Australia in a frantic first session, with Captain Joe Root claiming his decision to pitch under an overcast sky.

Australia dropped Marcus Harris to fit Head-again and Usman Khawaja, who scored two hundredths in Sydney’s final test in the middle order.

Ollie Robinson broke in the sixth when Zak Crawley caught on a second slip to send David Warner in search of a 22 ball duck.

Crawley dumped Labuschagne before batsman Robinson scored, diving to his left in what could have been Root’s usual catch.

Khawaja sided with Stuart Broad for six, and Crawley made no mistake when Robinson caused Steve Smith to sided with him when he fell from a duck.

Labuschagn went on the attack, giving Chris Woakes a six before a bizarre release. He shuffled right out of the hole and balanced too much. Broad’s delivery hit his thighs hard.

His header hit the 112-yard line, but he immediately fell, giving Robinson an advantage in the middle to try to hit Woakes in the middle of the wicket.

The second century of the Head series had 12 limits.

Mark Wood bounced Green for 74, the second fifty in the set, before the rain interrupted the game.

Sam Billings made his England debut in place of the injured Jos Buttler, who was behind the motions.
