Johnny Bairstow reached the first century of the English series on Friday after a terrific start to the third round of the Ashes Test on Friday as tourists battled it out, but Australia remained in power with a 158 lead at the end of the match.
Bairstow’s gutsy 103 did not help his team out of 258 seven Australian 416-8 declares the answer, the position seems very difficult for England to limped blows and bruises for lunch 36 fours.
The 32-year-old settled in a 128-run partnership with Ben Stokes for the fifth wicket and continued to challenge the Australian bowlers as he went for the 66th.

He hit a single nine-and-a-half before hitting 91 balls before Nathan Lyon off-spinner was caught lbw.
Cummins scored the first wicket of the game to dismiss Jos Buttler for a duck and the second a DRS review detected the touch of a Mark Wood bat before Lyon caught the ball. Wood threw three sixes in his 39th.
Bairstow will start the fourth round with Jack Leach, four away, trying to deepen his Australian lead.
It was quite a recovery after a first session, delayed by two hours due to drizzle but came to life in a storm of fiery bowling rhythms as a result of the Australian attack.
England lost openers Haseeb Hameed and opener Zak Crawley, skipper Joe Root and Dawid Malan cheaply before lunch, the last three being added to the number 36 without a single race.
Mitchell Starc removed Hameed from six to start the collapse, but the most damage was when he picked up Scott Boland’s place in the third test in Melbourne.

Boland won six of his seven in his debut, as England had a 68-point outing in their second inning at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, giving Australia a ticket and a 14-run victory in a five-game losing streak.
Trapped by an injury to Josh Hazlewood, Boland hit the second ball of the second to remove the top of Crawley’s post and send the batsman to the 18th.
The 32-year-old returned to Root to be ruled out by the England captain, who had yet to score, embarked on a wider delivery and was caught by Steve Smith on a second slip.
England were trying to play cautiously, but the 53-ball without a goal only increased the pressure and Green brought lunch when he caught Dawid Malan from the glove in three slips.
Boland finished the first session 2-0 out of four girls.
