After living happily in the same suburban town for 20 years, designer Charlotte Barnes didn’t even think about the move until a good friend told her about an 1880 car house she was supposed to see. It was love at first glance and as a result, the moment was coincidentally perfect for a downsizing. If you knew Charlotte, you wouldn’t be surprised to know that her career started in fashion: Ralph Lauren Womenswear in New York and London and then in the US division. When his house was published in British House & Garden in 1995, requests for his design skills arose Charlotte Barnes Interior Design and Decoration was born.
After returning to the state, the demand for his close and sophisticated style eventually led him to Connecticut to Colorado, New York to Newport, and abroad from London to Spain and Istanbul. And nowhere is his style more effortless in his home than in his home, which has traditionally linked tradition with modernity and elegance of fun, as in his fearless family room upstairs.
With an ordinary mix of antiques and contemporary art and a bold mix of colors and patterns, Charlotte’s rooms are bold, but still have a timeless sensibility that offers comfort and warmth. Even the smallest spaces are filled with the faint luxury of warming the eyes of the world.
In her renovation, Charlotte creatively created rooms with a dual duty, cultivating spaces for practicality that never sacrifice style. And some of its parts are sprinkled chic furniture collection, eager to make pieces he could never find.
