Australia is expecting an enthusiastic response from England in the third Ashes Test after losing the first two games of the series, but the hosts will be ready for anything Joe Root’s men can throw at them, Cameron Green said on Friday.
The touring team suffered major defeats in the first two rounds of the five-game series in Brisbane and Adelaide and must win at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to keep Ashes ’hopes of winning.
Australia looked better than their arch-rivals in every section of the game, but Green was confident England would improve their performance for the third test, which began on Sunday.
“Without saying that the performances weren’t good, they had some really good moments, and we know how good they are and of course the world team, the world players.
“We played very well in the last two games, we are sure they will bounce very hard.”
Green said it was important for the series to go to bed as soon as possible, as it was dangerous to give England the slightest encouragement.

“You never want to let a world-class team like England return to the series, so if we stay on top … that’s what we’re looking for,” he added.
Deputy captain Steve Smith said he was advised to handle the 22-year-old’s workload on the final day of the Adelaide pink ball competition, but Green said he was ready to go to Melbourne.
Green has managed to get England captain Root twice in the series, but said there are no big secrets to playing with the England skipper.
“I have very simple plans for him. Keep one end tight and let the other guys do their job,” Green said.
“I’ve been lucky a couple of times.”
While Green will be shooting at all of Melbourne’s cylinders, the state of fastball player Josh Hazlewood is uncertain after losing the Adelaide test with a side tension.
Green wasn’t sure if he would take part in the next test, but he was sure Hazlewood would be available for the fourth game in Sydney from 5 January.
“It’s going really well,” Green said. “He was doing his tests today and he looks really good. I haven’t talked to the boys about this game, but he’s definitely blocking it for Sydney.”
