Cricket Australia (CA) on Friday confirmed that it had postponed the Hobart test in Afghanistan scheduled for November 27 until the situation in Afghanistan became “clearer”.
The CA threatened in September that it would reject the test if the Taliban government took power in August if it did not allow women and girls to play sports.
“Cricket Australia and the Afghan Cricket Commission have agreed to postpone the men’s initial test match against Afghanistan after extensive consultation with stakeholders,” the CA said in a statement.

“The CA is committed to helping grow the game of women and men in Afghanistan and around the world, however, given the current uncertainty, the CA has deemed it necessary to postpone the test match until the situation is clearer.”
The sharp rise in Afghanistan’s cricket in recent years has been the biggest fairy tale for the sport, but as a result of the clashes it risks isolating the country after the Taliban took over.
The Afghan Council has sought the support of other full members of the International Cricket Council because it wants to maintain its place in world cricket.
The status of Afghanistan will be discussed at an ICC meeting alongside the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
Taliban officials have said they will not repeat the harsh rule of their previous government, which banned the education of girls and banned women from going out in public without a male guardian.
