Named Australia Hezbollah, Backed by Iran, a Lebanese Shiite group, as a “terrorist” organization.
The nomination covers the entire group, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported. Hezbollah’s military wing has been on the list since 2003.
In May, the U.S. called on governments around the world to take action against Hezbollah.
Last month, Saudi Arabia classified Lebanon’s Al-Qard Al-Hassan association as “”terrorist”Entities, citing links to activities to support Hezbollah.
Australia listed the global neo-Nazi group The Base as a “terrorist” organization, and found it a crime to be a member.
“The government has no tolerance for violence, and there is no reason to justify the innocent killing – religious or ideological,” Interior Minister Karen Andrews said in a statement announcing the new classifications.
The ABC said the Australian home intelligence agency was increasingly concerned about the far-right and white supremacists, and that members of The Base now take up a third of its investigations.
The UK and Canada have already added the organization to their “terrorist” lists.
Ahead of Wednesday’s announcement, Australia did classified 26 groups as “terrorist” organizations include ISIL (ISIS), Boko Haram and Abu Sayyaf.
