Australia will demand a whitening of the Ashes series against England to increase their chances of reaching the 2021-23 World Cup (WTC) World Cup final, Nathan Lyon said in a spin-off on Sunday.
The home team already had an unbeaten 3-0 advantage in the five Test series, and the importance of sustaining the victory was not lost in Lyon.

Australia failed to make it to the WTC’s starting final last year, when New Zealand beat India to win the crown, but the leader in the standings is Ash after his red form.
Lyon were aware that England would be “disappointed” to save a bit of pride in the last two World Cup races after being so far behind in the series. We want to improve … and try to put a lot more pressure on Joeri when she first gets to the fold so she doesn’t start.
“But after all, he’s a world-class player.”
Batsman Travis Head will miss the Sydney test afterwards giving a positive For COVID-19, all other team members, staff and families have tested negative in recent tests, Cricket Australia said.
Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis, who were called up as cover, would join the band later Sunday, along with opener Marcus Harris. Nic Maddinson will remain in Melbourne as a standby player, CA added.
