All professional cricketers in Australia have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and will be fully vaccinated by the end of the month, Nick Hockley Cricket CEO of Australia (CA) said.
National contract players were fully vaccinated by September, and 97% of home players received the second dose of the vaccine.
“Everyone is showing great leadership,” Hockley said AAP.

“We are 100% fully integrated for the dose of international male and female players. And then we are in the first dose of 100% for our home team. There has been a great educational program, our medical advisors have done workshop sessions for staff and players. It is symptomatic of the last 18 months.” .
Hockley thanked the players for not having to file a vaccination order and that the idea was “almost irrelevant” because of the vaccination rate.
Todd Greenberg, general manager of the Australian Cricketers Association, said he was proud of the players, “because they clearly understood their responsibility”.

Australia has had frequent rallies against vaccines in recent months, but almost 90% of eligible people have been fully vaccinated in the most populous state in New South Wales, and almost 95% in the capital Canberra.
Victoria was the first state to introduce vaccination orders for athletes in October. There are eleven professional football, cricket, Australian Rules and rugby teams in the state, and the capital Melbourne hosts the Australian Open Grand Slam.
