Regular Australian test skipper Pat Cummins was allowed to return home to Sydney on Friday after the team lost a second Ash Test in Adelaide due to a close relationship with a COVID-19 case.
The pink ball against Cummins against England was dismissed just hours before the start of the test on Wednesday night after dinner at the same restaurant in the positive case.
The 28-year-old tested negative on Thursday and was allowed to return home by South Australia’s SA Health on a charter flight, Cricket Australia (CA) said.

“According to the plan approved by SA Health, it will drive cars from isolation and then, with proper PPE and hygiene controls, will take a single charter flight,” the CA said.
“Cricket Australia will continue to consult with SA Health to ensure compliance with the plan. It will continue to comply with all NSW isolation requirements.”
Steve Smith has become Australia’s substitute captain in Adelaide, but the host, who has won 1-0 in a five-game series, is expected to welcome the Cummins to the Melbourne Boxing Day Test.
