Bangladesh predicts “miserable” shipment for resilient Taylor in NZ

Bangladesh coach Russell Domingo has said he will try to make Ross Taylor’s farewell to Test cricket “as unfortunate as possible” in a two-round series that will start in New Zealand on Mount Maunganui on Saturday.

Former captain Taylor will play the final home series of the series against Bangladesh before ending his limited international career against Australia and the Netherlands this summer.

“We know he’s a quality player and a lot of bowlers will be happy not to have to throw more at him,” Domingo told reporters on Friday.

“We want to make sure he doesn’t have a lot of shipping; we want to make sure his delivery is as pathetic as possible.”

Taylor is New Zealand’s top scorer in the Trials (7,584) and in the one-day internationals (8,581) and Domingo hopes the 37-year-old will be keen to bring his glory to the fore.

“We know we have to throw well to get out in the next few weeks because he will make the decision to finish well,” the coach said.

“Every quality player wants to finish at the top of his career and leave on his own, so I’m sure he’ll be ready to put in high scores in the coming weeks.”

New Zealand world champion Kane Williamson is out without a captain who is suffering from an elbow injury, and Tom Latham has been put in charge.

Trent Boult and Neil Wagner will welcome the fastballs, but Latham said they have yet to make a call to play Rachin Ravindran or Daryl Mitchell.

“We will make the decision tomorrow at the general venue,” Latham said.

“We will have five batters and four seamstresses who have done very well in these conditions for a long time. We are eager to return in these conditions.”
