Bron Breakker says winning his NXT title was the first time his father, Rick Steiner, had seen him fight

Bron Breakker ushered in the NXT 2.0 era by twice defeating champion Tomasso Ciampa in NXT’s main event: New Year’s Evil. He was in the wonderful company of Breakker that evening when his father, veteran fighter Rick Steiner, sat in the front row to witness his coronation.

Steiner celebrated in the ring with his son after the NXT took off the air, which was always his favorite achievement.

“It was a surreal moment. I’ll remember that for the rest of my life,” Breakker told CBS Sports. “It was incredible. It’s not set yet, it only happened 12 hours ago. It was very nice. My dad, it was the first time he saw me at work and he sat in the front row. It was nice. It was a moment. That’s forever. it ‘s the moment I save. ”

The entire Steiner clan, Rick and his brother Scott Steiner in particular, live on thanks to the new NXT champion.

“He’s crazy, man. They’re proud of me,” Breakker said. “Do you know what I mean? They’re happy for me. They’re kind of living through me, a little bit. They’re very involved. They talk to me, give advice, help, in any case. It’s nice, man. I could see that he was making them happy. It’s a very nice thing. “

Breakker came in wearing the traditional black hat of NXT: New Year’s Evil, which often looked more modest than the colorful or leopard print outfits. First NFL the player revealed that the black hat was a gesture to his father. Rick wore the same tone when Mike Rotunda won Starrcade for the WCW TV title in 1998, and again when Shane Douglas won the US WCW title in a WCW Nitro episode in February 2001.

“He was dressed in black that night. His shirt was different, of course. His was probably cooler, to be honest with you. It was just a kind of tribute,” Breakker said. “Change it up a bit and keep people on your toes. Keep investing in what I’m doing. I want to entertain as much as I can. My wardrobe, what I’m wearing and things are part of that.”

Breakker made his way to the ring by kicking the old gold-black NXT logo, splitting it in half. It symbolized a change of guard to NXT 2.0; however, the 24-year-old denied that Ciampa was the nail in the coffin for NXT veterans who won.

“I don’t think it’s a coffin nail or anything. We’re moving from black and gold to 2.0,” Breakker said. “Tomasso will be around. I’m sure he and I will cross paths again. That will happen sooner or later. It will happen again. I’m eager. That’s it. It’s just a turn. These guys will be here. I’m fully aware that they are here. It’s not going anywhere. “

Looking at the horizon, Breakker expects a major event level, with the company’s kingdom-like face as the NXT champion.

“I want to be for the person,” Breakker said. “I want to be a wrestling champion. I want to be proud of the WWE Universe. I want to be electrifying and fun to watch. I want people to be on the edge of their seat when I come out because they love me and can.” Don’t wait to see what I’ll do. I want to be an honorary champion and representative of this company and show what we are up to at NXT. That’s it”.
