If you are thinking that you have to choose between going vintage or modern while you are designing your house, think again. Brian and Anissa Zajac have mastered a rustic look in their stunning remodel, with a little patience and great attention to detail, so you can get the best of both worlds with a modern country house.

Located in a dreamy historic neighborhood in Indianapolis, Indiana, the couple bought an old one Cape Cod House just over three years ago as a fixer, and they have turned the house into a modern beach oasis that they share with their three daughters. Brian and Anissa started out as the most considered redevelopment project House Seven Design + Build, they saw it as an opportunity to challenge their skills and try out some bold design options.

“All the rooms on the first floor were cut down due to the bad remodeling of the years and it just didn’t leak. I wanted to serve the houses and how we live together, we opened as much as possible, ”says Anissa.

Anissa and Brian are here with all the details of their design process, exactly how they turned the historic repair-top home into a dream home and of course all the unique photos.

Look forward to their modern country house.

Tell us about your house.

Our house is a Cape Cod style house in Indian Codolis, Indiana. When we bought the house we planned to remodel it quite a bit. But now we’ve shaped almost every square inch in one way or another in the last three years.

Favorite place in the house:

I love our kitchen because we spend most of our family time there.

I see why! When you’re not in the kitchen, what’s your favorite way to spend time at home?

Wood fireplace is my favorite! I like to be on the couch with a hot drink when I hear Billie Holiday.

It’s your house epitoni the beach atmosphere coincides with a comfortable hut. What was the inspiration for your design?

I wanted the house to feel true to its cottage style. My goal was to keep the house quiet with neutral and organic elements, along with plenty of texture to get warmth.

How Indiana played Enter inspiration for your design?

It’s funny because most people who see our house online think it’s on the West Coast. I gravitate towards the neutrals because the sky is very overcast in Indiana during the winter months, and I want to keep the house as bright and light as possible.

What he does winssometime look at your house?

There is always a wood fire entering the living room, soup in the kitchen, the smell of candles on fire and jazz music playing in the background.

What was the biggest challenge in space design?

The rooms are small, so I had to work hard to choose furniture that would be comfortable and beautiful. I’ll say they were a couple of rooms that didn’t fit well at first, but now I think they’re perfect.

What is your main interior design tip?

Have a plan and stick to it. It is very important to know how you want to use the space before you buy items. I think living in your home before you tackle the overall design is much better than living it all the time.

It gives you time to get to know the house and how it works for you. Once you’ve set that up, you can make a design plan for what you need to make the space complete. (New furniture, paint colors, work done, etc.)

What are your favorite design resources?

I’m always looking for inspiration on Pinterest but I like design books and my favorite blogs I look at every week. I also love to travel. Wherever we are, Brian and I always look at the way we design and manufacture architecture and things. I like to know how to do things or try to guess, which I think makes me a better designer.

Favorite places to buy furniture and decor?

My favorite things are antiques, especially French ones. I am always inspired by French-made furniture crafts. I’m always looking for unique objects, so I like old shows Roundtop, TX. It’s a dream come true! I love it too Eneby Home in Nashville for one-of-a-kind subjects and, of course, ours House Seven Design Shop!

Fill the gap: A well-designed house should _______.

Feeling at home and comfortable. It’s a place that should make you smile as soon as you walk in the door. Proverbs, “There is no place like home ” it does not apply to stifling uncomfortable museum-like houses.

Describe your home in five words or less:
