WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. District Court Judge J. Michelle Childs is among those considering nominating President Joe Biden for the Supreme Court, a White House spokesman said Friday.
Children would replace Stephen Breyer, who announced on Thursday that he would retire at the end of his court term in June.
She has promised to choose the first black woman to serve in the National Court and is expected to be selected from a list of about 10 or fewer people, who will meet with candidates next week.

“Judge Childs is among the many people being considered for the Supreme Court, and we will not move his appointment to the Court of Appeal while the President is considering this position,” White House spokesman Andrew Bates said.
“At the same time, it is wrong to say that the president is seriously considering only three potential candidates.”
The spokesman made the statement after the Senate Judiciary Committee postponed a hearing scheduled for the appointment of the Childs DC Circuit on Tuesday.
Childs, a federal district court in South Carolina, has been approved by U.S. Representative James Clyburn, who is close to Biden, a whipped majority and a third-tier Democrat in the House of Representatives.
