KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) – The United States is ready to sell F-35 fighter jets and drones to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement on Wednesday. interrupted the discussion of the agreement.

A U.S. official told Reuters on Tuesday that he had informed the U.S. that it would suspend talks on acquiring F-35 fighter jets as part of a $ 23 billion deal that includes drones and other advanced ammunition.

The official cited “technical conditions, sovereign operating restrictions and a cost / benefit analysis” as reasons for the Basque government’s re-evaluation of the agreement.

The U.S. has signed an agreement to buy 50 F-35 aircraft and 18 armed drones, people familiar with the situation told Reuters in January.

Speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, Blinken said Washington needed to do some revisions.

“We wanted to make sure, for example, that our commitment to Israel’s qualitative military advantage is guaranteed, so we wanted to make sure we could do an in-depth study of any technology sold or transferred to other partners in the region, including the BAC,” Blinken said.

“But I think we are ready to move forward if the Basque Country wants to continue these two,” he said.
