A severe winter storm hit a large part of the east coast of the United States, which was hit by hurricane winds, and caused heavy snowfall that made the trip treacherous or impossible.
More than 120,000 homes and businesses lost power in the state of Massachusetts, exacerbating the mistakes. Millions of people were affected by what meteorologists called a “bomb cyclone.”
The storm shook parts of 10 states with snow warnings stretching from Virginia to Maine. Philadelphia and New York City saw a lot of wind and snow, but Boston was on the cross, breaking the record for the longest snowfall in a single day, 60 cm (23.6 inches), according to the National Weather Service.
There was a wind gust of 134 km / h (83 mph) on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. In southwest Boston, Sharon, Massachusetts, received more than 76 cm (30 inches) of snow.
More than 4,500 flights were canceled in the eastern United States.
