Canada will host the next World Cup qualifier in Hamilton

Canada, which is on the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying table, will host the United States in the open air in Hamilton, Ontario, for a cold meeting in January, Canada Soccer said on Thursday.

The decision was announced nine days later when the Canadian hosts beat Mexico 2-1 in Edmonton, where snow and cold temperatures helped them to victory.

“We are excited to bring Hamilton’s FIFA Men’s World Cup qualifier in January, with the team in a wave of nationwide support at the top of the table and in November after a formidable display by the Edmontonians,” the Canadian football president said. Nick Bontis said in a news release.

Canada is undefeated in the final round of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, with 16 points from eight matches, ahead of the United States (15 points), Mexico (14 points) and Panama (14 points).

Canada will play in Honduras on January 27 and will visit El Salvador on February 2 in the other two matches of the three-match FIFA window.
